Apprenticeships in Children and Young People Workforce

Apprenticeships in Children and Young People Workforce is a set of level 2 and level 3 programmes designed to  help learners develop knowledge and skills relevant to those interested or are working with childreen age between 0 – 19 years. Primarily the programme is for those working with children of 0 – 5 who are preparing to join main stream educational system.

As an apprentice, the exact nature of your job role will depend on your employer. The Intermediate Level apprenticeship (Level 2) is for those working under supervision, such as nursery assistants, pre-school assistants, care assistants or assistant youth support workers. The Advanced Level apprenticeship (Level 3) is for those who may work on their own or who supervise others, for example, nursery nurses, care workers, childminders or foster carers.

At Advanced Level, there are two pathways to enable you to choose the most relevant pathway for the sector you work in, i.e. Early Years Educator for those working with children aged 0–5, or Children and Young People’s Social Care. Entry requirements for these pathways vary.

After successful completion of this apprenticeship there’s good scope for progression. You may move up through levels of work, e.g. from nursery assistant to nursery manager. There are also opportunities to undertake further training or assessment and possibly to move on to higher level qualifications.
